Bree Street Closure Every Sunday

​We are back, bigger then ever before for 2025 – ’26

​Join us for Bree Street Sundays, the Weekly Bree and Shortmarket Street Experiment where we close the road(s) to cars every Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM along where we’re inviting Capetonians to reclaim public space and reimagine a safer, more pedestrian-friendly city.

This initiative is supported by the Mayor’s office and is not classified as an event or a street festival with food truck—it’s part of a new approach to using tools to create safer streets through temporary installations and hands-on activities to see what works and what doesn’t.

​When: Every Sunday
​Time: 10 AM – 5 PM
​Where: Bree Street (Wale to Strand, including Shortmarket St)
​How can I get there? MyCiTi runs on Sundays, you can walk or cycle if you are close by or you can find parking by entering Shortmarket St via Buitengracht St.
